2023 Stuart A. Kleit Symposium

The National Kidney Foundation of Indiana’s 2023 Stuart A. Kleit Symposium is a one-day conference designed for kidney professionals and their professional associates. This year’s symposium is being offered as a hybrid event with in-person and virtual options for both presenters and attendees. By providing information about the latest developments and needs within the renal field, it is the NKFI’s hope to improve the quality of care for all kidney patients. Learning objectives:
- Define racism and describe the racial/ethnic health disparities observed in pediatric kidney care
- Discuss recommendation implementation including ongoing barriers and national changes resulting from the Task Force’s work
- Recognize Mediterranean Lebanese dishes and learn how to adjust such recipes to become kidney friendly
- Describe the differences between north and south Indian cuisine and how their culture and religion influence their diet habits
- Evaluate the effect of race and socioeconomic variables on transplant
- Acquire tools and approaches to create a welcoming and affirming experience for transgender and gender expansive (TGE) people.
- Discuss (i) what is xenotransplantation, (ii) what is the current status of preclinical kidney xenotransplantation trials, (iii) and future of xenotransplantation
- Discuss the current organ allocation system and UNOS point prioritization on the kidney transplant list.
- Recognize the ways that transplant recipient selection may not be fair to underserved populations and outline strategies to improve selection programs using an ethical framework
